Our Framework
A comprehensive approach to building future-ready leaders by developing Awareness, Ability and Access.
Our Approach to Creating Change
To address the root causes of social immobility, youth unemployment and a lack of diversity at the top, DLN's intervention strategy is grounded in our Awareness, Ability and Access framework. Our message is simple: these three pillars must co-exist, start early and be sustained to create lasting change.
Awareness
Showcasing diverse leaders, non-stereotypical careers and post-16 pathways to broaden horizons and challenge stereotypes from age 7.
Ability
An all-age leadership and employability curriculum starting from age 7 to employment, building transferable skills for the future of work.
Access
Connecting young people aged 16 and above to diverse leaders and early-careers engagement opportunities through mentoring and professional networks.
The 3A Framework in Practice
Every DLN programme is designed to address one or more of the three pillars. Together, they create a systemic change pathway from broadening career horizons to building skills and opening doors to real opportunities.
A progressive leadership and careers curriculum for young people aged 7 to 19.
Showcases diverse leaders, non-stereotypical careers and emerging sectors such as AI, green jobs and digital entrepreneurship, challenging stereotypes before they become entrenched.
Builds transferable leadership and employability skills progressively across four levels: Foundation, Growth, Applied and Mastery, spanning Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5.
Incorporates employer co-designed content, industry challenges, virtual work experience and career readiness bootcamps, connecting young people to the world of work from age 7.
An immersive leadership and employability programme for young people aged 16 to 24.
Employer brand awareness content and career pathway sessions challenge stereotypes about who belongs in STEAM industries and what professional careers look like.
Skills based industry masterclasses delivered by diverse professionals build leadership skills, industry knowledge and professional confidence for apprenticeships and first roles.
One to one mentoring with professionals from leading organisations creates direct pathways to work experience, apprenticeships and sustainable employment.
Immersive work days and regional events connecting young people to finance and innovation industries.
Young people interact with diverse finance and innovation professionals, broadening their understanding of careers in sectors they may never have considered.
Pitch days, investor simulations and enterprise challenges develop financial literacy, entrepreneurial thinking and professional communication skills.
Regional events across the UK, managing all logistics, safeguarding and parental consent, open doors to a workday experience and environment that would otherwise be inaccessible.
An intergenerational community connecting young people, professionals and employers.
Young members are exposed to a diverse community of professionals across industries, providing living proof that careers are not defined by background, gender or ethnicity.
Networking events, knowledge sharing sessions and leadership workshops help members at every stage develop the competencies they need to progress.
The network creates direct pathways to mentoring, work experience, apprenticeships and employment, connecting young people to the professionals and opportunities that can change their trajectory.
Why the Three Pillars Must Co-Exist
Addressing only one or two pillars creates incomplete change. Here is what happens when each pillar is missing.
Young people develop skills and access opportunities but remain unaware of the full range of careers available to them, limiting their ambition and reinforcing stereotypes.
Young people may be inspired and connected, but without the skills and confidence to perform, opportunities remain out of reach. Aspiration exists but the means to achieve it does not.
Young people may be aware and capable, but without connections to the world of work they cannot convert their potential into employment. Talent remains untapped and inequality unchanged.
